Mairead Whelan

Mairead Whelan has three decades of experience teaching music including Piano, Violin, Harp and Singing (group and Choir). Mairead graduated from UCD with Arts Degree (Music, Irish) and H.Dip.Ed. and is a registered Teacher with the Teaching Council, and has taught the music curriculum for Junior Cert and Leaving Cert.  During her years at university, Mairead studied Piano and violin to an advanced level, achieving piano diploma London College of Music (A.L.C.M). After starting in the world of work, Mairead switched loyalties to the harp and played harp on stage and at weddings and hotel events for 20 years. As a member of Anuna choral group (1990-1996), Mairead performed in concert halls in Ireland and abroad (singing and harp).

Mairead returned home and settled in Leitrim in 1997, and after teaching locally for 15 years, family circumstances led to a move away from music into the electricity sector where Mairead currently works as a Program Manager with Enel X (www.enelx.com). During the COVID lockdown, Mairead picked up her neglected violin with renewed interest, and now plays with Sligo Baroque Orchestra.

Mairead is happy to return to music teaching on a part-time basis and is offering limited hours in piano and violin lessons in Drumlish, Co Longford, commencing September 2024.
